EAGLES WIN SEASON DEBUT

For all home openers, regardless of the sport, there is a special feeling in the air.  With this feeling come the hopes, dreams, and aspirations of a new season.  The opener tonight for the Surrey Eagles was no different and after the boys? performance, every hope, dream, and aspiration of a successful season is completely warranted.

The Surrey Eagles, anchored on the blue line by new team captain Ilan Cumberbirch, had an evenly matched first period against the Langley Chiefs.  It was in the second that the Eagles began to dominate.  The charge was led by a very good off-season pick-up of former Powell River Kings player, Brennan Strang.  He had 2 goals and 1 assist in tonight?s game.

Strang?s 3 point night was matched by linemate and veteran Eagles? player Adam Hartley.  Hartley was credited with an assist on each of the Eagles goals.

Strong netminding was shown by returning Eagles? goalie Tommy Tartaglione. Tommy T had a 26 save performance in the 3-1 win and took a shot at Langley?s empty net in the dying seconds of the third in an attempt to match his last year?s goal total.

And don?t think that because it was the first night that the players were afraid to drop the gloves.  In a bout to make Madison Square Gardens envious, Eagles enforcer Andrew Christ and Chief?s captain Jesse Tresierra traded blows for a good minute at centre ice.  Sources from the scorer?s table claim that the two plan to have round two tomorrow night as the Eagles return the favour to the Chiefs and will play the part of visitor for Langley?s home opener Saturday at 7 pm.

The Surrey Eagles next home is Friday 12, September at 7 pm, as your Eagles play host to the Powell
