Eagles’ Soar To New Heights With 13 Goals Against Coquitlam

Burnaby, B.C. – On a gorgeous Saturday afternoon in the middle of April, the Surrey Eagles (6-2-1) continued their offensive surge and soared to a huge 13-1 win over the Coquitlam Express (4-3-2). The Eagles scored 9 on Friday, to jump to 22 goals in their weekend back-to-back wins.

“Our success was created from a pass-first mentality utilizing everyone in the offensive zone.” Cam Keith watched as Tyson McLean and Jacob Slipec both scored hat-tricks. Christian Fitzgerald and Gabe Schovanek had 2 goal games. Brett Bliss, Michael Abgrall, and Alec Saretzky rounded out the scoring for Surrey. Tommy Scarfone made 28 saves in the win.

For McLean and Slipec, 2 of 5 players acquired at the BCHL’s trade deadline it was a coming out of sorts. McLean now has 4 goals and 5 points in 8 games this season, while Slipec improved to 5 goals and 8 points in 8 games. When asked about both players, Cam noted their energy has played a big role in helping the Eagles to their hot start. “McLean and Slipec have given us more of a blue-collar work ethic. They have supplied us with much-needed energy at crucial times.”

Andrej Kovacevich had the goal for Coquitlam. Dylan Kruss was the losing goaltender after giving up 6 goals on 20 shots before being pulled early in the 2nd for Jaden Little. Little gave up 7 goals on 22 shots the rest of the way.

While the 22 goals over the weekend were impressive, it’s back to work for Cam’s team moving forward. “Each game is a new opportunity for us to improve as a group and prove ourselves. Next shift mentality while not dwelling on past results.”

The Eagles will get their next opportunity to prove themselves on Monday, April 19 when the team will play the Powell River Kings. Puck drop is slated for 8:00 pm inside the Scotia Barn. You can watch the game live on BCHL TV (Powered by HockeyTV), and listen on mixlr.com/eaglesbchl.
