Eagles Explode For 9 Goals Against Powell River In Win

Burnaby, B.C. – The Surrey Eagles (5-2-1) offence exploded to the tune of 9 goals in a 9-3 win over the Powell River Kings (3-4-1) on Friday night. The 9 goals were the most Surrey has scored this season, and came from 9 different goal scorers.

“It was nice to see contributors from all four lines and the D core.” Remarked Eagles head coach Cam Keith after his team’s best offensive performance of the year. After giving up the opening goal to Powell River just 3:05 into the game, the Eagles responded with 3 unanswered off the sticks of Alec Saretzky, Brandon Santa Juana, and Tio D’Addario.

After Kieran O’Hearn made it 4-1 to begin the 2nd, Powell River scored 2 to make the game close off the sticks of Curtis Gould and Josh Kagan. The Eagles never relented and would score 5 unanswered through the final 30 minutes of the game to close out the win. Buddy Johnson, Gabe Schovanek, Wil Kushnyrik, Michael Abgrall and Holden Katzalay scored the goals. Katzalay led the Eagles with 4 points on the night, while Max Prazma made 30 saves to record the win.

When asked how his team was able to score as many goals as they did, Keith praised his team’s ability to force mistakes. “Each line played a simple game while limiting turnovers, which increased possession in the offensive zone. This allowed us to roll lines and keep the momentum.” The Eagles got at least 1 goal from every line in the win.

Yet despite the huge win, the coach was already trying to make sure his team knows they’re in for a tough challenge tomorrow against the Coquitlam Express. “You have to be careful with your mindset going into a second game on short rest. We expect another tough game and therefore it’s important to reset mentally.”

The Eagles short rest will end at 1:00 pm when the puck drops inside the Scotia Barn against the Express. You can watch that game live on BCHL TV (Powered by HockeyTV), and Mixlr.com/eaglesbchl.
