Eagles Fall In 3rd To The Chiefs

The Surrey Eagles lost to the Chilliwack Chiefs 4-1 despite holding the first two periods to a scoreless draw.

Forbes Ploszaj got his sixth start for the Eagles stopping 29 of 33 shots on goal, while Matteo Esposito of Chilliwack let in one goal of 15 chances.

The Eagles were able to hold the Chiefs to a scoreless first period that saw five total penalties all occurring in the final four minutes of play.

The following 20 minutes of play saw no goals once again, but Eagles defenceman Brett Stewart taking a five-minute major for checking Vimal Sukumaran into the boards. Sukumaran went down and after the trainers looked at him, they decided to call local emergency medical services who then took the Quebec native to hospital for precautionary reasons.

Chilliwack would score two goals in under two minutes to start the final frame before Eagles’ left-winger Kurt Black scored his first goal for Surrey after being acquired from Trail. Black cut the lead to just one, but 54 seconds later, Darien Craighead would score on a breakaway to regain the two-goal cushion. Craighead would add an empty-netter sealing the Chiefs’ fifth win against Surrey this season.

Surrey’s record drops to 4-18, while Chilliwack improves to 13-5-1-2.

Plosazj would be name the third star of the game for the Surrey Eagles, while Chilliwack Captain Jordan Kawaguchi and Craighead were named second and first stars respectively.

Surrey’s six-foot-seven defenceman Trent Huitema was named the Fortis BC Energy Player of the Game for his aggressive play on the back end for the Eagles.

The Eagles will face the Chiefs for the second time in three days on Friday night at 7PM. It’ll also be Game Four of Surrey’s six-game home-stand and the sixth meeting of their season-long series.
