Eagles Drop 4-2 Decision On The Road In Langley

The Surrey Eagles had the early momentum in their clash with the Langley Rivermen at the Langley Events Centre, but the home team prevailed in the offensive zone and capitalizing on their chances.

Eagles’ goaltender Daniel Davidson flashed the leather numerous times and he was able to stop a total of 31 on 35 shots. Langley’s Bo Didur proved why he was a CJHL Prospect selection, halting 21 of 23 attempts.

The Eagles got the early lead as Jeffrey Stewart put the puck in front of the net for Jaxon Joseph to net his fifth goal in ten games with Surrey. Langley however would comeback with two goals in 42 seconds late in the first frame courtesy of Max Kaufman and Matt Saharchuk. Saharchuk would tally his second of the afternoon 76 seconds after that and the Rivermen held on to a 3-1 score after the opening period.

A quiet second period saw the first two penalties of the game, one for each team, and leaning in favour of the home team. Langley’s Justin Fregona would record his team-leading 23rd goal of the season on a four-minute penalty committed by Nick Azar and the Rivermen had a three-goal lead after 40 minutes.

Kurt Black netted his goal of the night with less than six minutes left in regulation and a fight between Surrey’s Matt Brown and Langley’s Cameron Ginnetti would break out in the aftermath. The Eagles soared up the ice in the final two minutes finding gaps, but not able to find an open cage.

Surrey’s record goes down to 6-39-0-2, while Langley gets their 27th victory improving to a record of 27-18-2-1.

Daniel Davidson’s performance was rewarded with the game’s third star, while Rivermen Adam Sinclair and Matt Saharchuk were named the second and first stars respectively.

William Campion’s back-end performance and explosive skates up the middle for Langley got him the afternoon’s Fortis BC Energy Player of the Game.

Surrey will fly north for the new week, arriving in Prince George for back-to-back games versus the Spruce Kings on Friday and Saturday. The Eagles will return to the nest the following Monday, February 8th, for a special Family Day game against the Coquitlam Express. Puck-drop is scheduled for 2PM!
