Ty Westgard To Join WHL’s Victoria Royals

The Surrey Eagles announced today that Ty Westgard will be joining the Victoria Royals for the remainder of the 2015-2016 season. Westgard, 17, has spent a season and a half with the Eagles organization playing in 43 games, compiling 11 goals and 32 points.

The Surrey Native has received plenty of attention this year from NCAA division 1 programs, the WHL and the NHL Central Scouting. Westgard most recently attended the Canada West – World Junior A Challenge tryouts where he was injured with a lower body laceration. He is expected to be out of the lineup for 7-10 days prior to returning to action.

Eagles President Chuck Westgard commented on the decision.

“It has always been a dream of Ty’s to play in the WHL. We had a thought in our minds that he would be playing there at the start of next year after graduating, but the opportunity came now and he felt that it was the right decision at this time.”

The Eagles have been regular contacts for the WHL having John Wesley (Vancouver Giants) and Ryan Jones (Vancouver Giants) already joining their new team for the remainder of the season.

“We are an organization that will always be moving kids on. With the moves that we’ve made over the past couple of weeks we see great optimism for the players that are with our organization to step up and take the new found opportunity.” Added Westgard

As Westgard joins the Victoria Royals, Coach and GM Blaine Neufeld sees it as a positives for the group.

“We have been able to add more quality kids this week and have sped up our rebuild. We anticipate that our group will quickly redefine our team’s identity here prior to Christmas and start having success.”

The Eagles plan to announce an additional trade that was recently made, along with two recent signings. More information will be made available as soon as possible.
