Mostat Nets Two, Eagles Fall To Express On Family Day

The Surrey Eagles hosted their annual Family Day Game against the Coquitlam Express on Monday afternoon, but were unable to pull off the win against their Mainland Division rivals.

Eagles’ goaltender Daniel Davidson let in four goals on 14 shots, while Express netminder Lawson Fenton recorded his 11th win of the year, stopping 41 of 44 shots.

The Eagles came out flying in the offensive zone, generating nearly doubling the shots-on-goal ratio, but the Express would find more open cages in the first frame. Owen Stout opened the game for the visiting team just under five minutes and would be followed with a power-play goal from Coquitlam Captain Jackson Cressey. Despite Surrey’s efforts to score in the final minute of the opening period, the score would stand at 2-0.

One minute after Express D-man Ryan Coghlan made it a 3-0 score Surrey’s own Jeffrey Stewart would dangle around three Coquitlam defenders to find the back of the net for his 10th of the season. The momentum continued in favour of the home team, but Captain Cressey would score once more to regain the three-goal lead, forcing the Eagles’ bench to make a goaltending switch. Justin Laforest would replace Davidson for the remainder of the period and stopped all shots, but the green and white were down 4-1 going into the final 20 minutes.

Logan Mostat played a stellar third period netting his second and third goals of his BCHL career, one cut the lead in half on the power-play. However, the Express would roll on to victory off an empty-netter from affiliate Brady Chin for his first as a BCHL player. The Eagles would drop this game by a final score of 7-3.

Surrey’s record moves down to 7-41-0-2, while Coquitlam improves to 21-25-5-1.

Mostat was rewarded with the game’s second star, while Coquitlam’s Colton Kerfoot and Jackson Cressey were named the third and first stars respectively.

Tyler Cooper was aggressive on the back end, generating multiple shots from the point and was honoured with the Fortis BC Energy Player of the Game.

Surrey will face-off with the Langley Rivermen on Thursday February 11th at 7PM, followed by a special Valentine’s Day Game on Sunday at 4PM versus the Wenatchee Wild.
