Jacob Bonkowski Commits To University Of Nebraska – Omaha

Surrey, B.C. – The Surrey Eagles are proud to congratulate Jacob Bonkowski on his commitment to the University Of Nebraska-Omaha. Bonkowski joins fellow teammates Jacob Slipec and Michael Abgrall who had already committed there prior to the beginning of the 2021-22 BCHL regular season.

Bonkowski, from Richmond, BC was acquired from the Powell River Kings in the multi team trade which also saw the Eagles add Primo Self. Bonkowski has been a top line player for the Eagles since being acquired, and has gotten off to a strong start. In 6 games with the Eagles this season, Bonkowski has scored 3 goals and has 5 points. For his BCHL career so far, Bonkowski has played in 28 games, and has 6 goals and 21 points.

When asked about what it means to have his NCAA commitment announced, Bonkowski gave praise to his teammates for what he’s accomplished. “It feels good, and it’s obviously nice to have. I couldn’t thank the guys more, they’ve really helped me throughout the season so far. We just have to keep pushing and we’ll have a really good year this year.”

For Bonkowski, it wasn’t a hard decision to pick Nebraska-Omaha as his college destination after seeing the facilities. “I feel like it was a really good fit for me. They have a great facility, a great program, and they’ll be able to help get me to the next level after college hockey.”

Finally, Bonkowski will get to play this season with 2 Nebraska-Omaha commits already, and admitted it’s going to be fun playing with them here to build chemistry before they all take the next step together. “It’s super cool going there with both of them and knowing I’ll have 2 close buddies there. It’s great we’ll go to the same place, practice together and get to know each other better throughout the year.”

Congratulations on your commitment Jacob!
