Langley Native Matteo Speranza Commits To Surrey For Next Season

Surrey, B.C. – The Surrey Eagles are proud to announce forward Matteo Speranza (04) has committed to the team for the 2022-23 season. The Langley native is the 2nd player committed for next season, and joins Ewan Rennie who committed to the team for next year last week.

Speranza is currently enjoying a great season so far with the Fraser Valley Thunderbirds in the BCEHL U18 league. The left shot forward has scored 7 goals in just 10 games and has 12 points on the year. Speranza also played in 1 pre-season game for the Eagles this season, and scored in his lone appearance against the Merritt Centennials. Matteo is 5’11, and weighs just under 170 pounds.

For Matteo, it was an easy decision to join Surrey after hearing great things from a couple of current Eagles players. “I’ve heard a lot of great things about the team. Cam Keith is a great coach, and I’ve got a lot of friends from the Delta Hockey Academy who are already there such as Tait Ross, Tate Taylor, Trent Wilson, and they all say great things about the program.”

Matteo will look to be an offensive dynamo for the Eagles next season, and that’s what he told Eagles fans to expect. “Offensive ability, playmaking, and making things happen on both ends of the ice.”

Finally, for Matteo he’ll look to continue developing his game in the BCHL in order to make the next step in his hockey career. “I’m hoping to be able to play the best I can while developing my game enough to elevate myself to the NCAA while playing in all situations.”

For Eagles head coach Cam Keith, Speranza adds another weapon to next year’s roster along with a strong work ethic on a game by game basis. “Matteo is a junkyard dog who’s played with many of the kids on this team from his days with Delta hockey. He’s got hockey IQ, a knack for scoring and plays with a ton of heart and soul.”

Welcome to the flock Matteo!
