Eagles Commit to Darren Hards

SURREY – The Surrey Eagles are thrilled to announce the commitment of forward Darren Hards for the 2015-16 BCHL season.

Hards, 16, joins the Eagles from the BC Major Midget League’s Cariboo Cougars, with whom he recorded 14 goals and 21 assists, good for 35 points in 34 games. In the BCMML playoffs he added 2 goals, 3 assists to his 2015/16 totals. The Cougars went all the way to the BCMML Championship series.

Hards describes himself as ”a hard working player who finishes my checks and dangles when the opportunity is there.”  He believes he can bring “positive energy into the room and onto the ice” with the Eagles this year.

“We are thrilled about Darren’s scoring ability, but more importantly with what type of kid he is,” stated Director of Hockey Operations, Blaine Neufeld. “Watching him develop over this last season and seeing him again at our Spring Camp solidified that he will be an important part of our group this coming year.”

Darren sees himself as a player is hard working, finishing all his checks and dangles when the opportunity presents itself. Coach Neufeld agreed, “He was head and shoulders above everyone else at the Spring Camp. The part that told me we had to had him was the fact after he scored a pretty goal he would follow the next shift up with 2 or 3 solid hits. Fans are going to love to watch him play because he is looks to be a go-go-go kind of player.”

Hards will pursue an NCAA Division 1 scholarship over the next years as an Eagle. He will try to emulate his favourite player, Steven Stamkos, and looks forward to the change in seasons living down in beautiful South Surrey versus Prince George’s cold winters.

A few other tid bits about Hards is that if he wasn’t playing Ice hockey, he’d be pursuing a career in Roller Hockey, as he helped Team BC to a State Wars Championship, where he was named all-star.  If there is any down time in this to be superstar, it would be snowboarding in the winter and fishing in the summer.

Darren and the Eagles have not received the scheduling yet, but come September you can be assured the newly formed Eagles will be ready to rock in their 25th year!

Welcome, Darren, to the Eagles family!
