Eagles Announce Leadership Group

Surrey, B.C. – The Surrey Eagles are proud to announce Kieran O’Hearn has been named captain of the team for the 2020-21 BCHL season. Owen Nolan, Carter King, and Jimmy Darby have been named alternate captains to round out the leadership group.

O’Hearn was acquired by the Eagles on October 24, 2019 in exchange for then-captain Cody Schiavon, and has become an integral part of the leadership group for this Eagles team. O’Hearn had 3 goals, 18 points and 33 penalty minutes in 39 games with the team after being acquired, and was named the team’s best defenseman for the 2019-20 season.

It’s a big honour for Kieran to be named captain of the team this season. “It’s an honour to be chosen by my teammates to lead them this year. We have a strong returning group with many leaders, and we look forward to building on the success of last years team and winning a championship.”

Nolan, King, and Darby are all entering their 2nd year with the Eagles after beating the Chilliwack Chiefs in round 1 of the Fred Page Cup Playoffs last season. When asked about what it means to be a part of the leadership group, all three were honoured by the nomination. Their quotes are below.

“It’s an honour to be a part of the [leadership] group. There are so many leaders on this team; it’s going to be an exciting year.” – Owen Nolan

“It’s an honour and I’m very excited to have the opportunity to be a part of the leadership group. With it comes an increased responsibility to set an example on and off the ice.” – Carter King

“It’s an honour to be a leader on a team full of great guys. We have a special group this year and a good veteran core that should help our younger guys out. I’m super excited to see what our group can do.” – Jimmy Darby

Congratulations to Kieran on being named captain, and to Owen, Carter, and Jimmy for being named alternates for this season!
