Eagles Unsuccessful Against Alberni Valley, Powell River

A tough three-game-in-three-day road trip came to a close this past weekend, which saw the Eagles drop two games against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs and Powell River Kings.

On Saturday night against Alberni Valley, the Eagles took a 2-1 lead into the third period on the strength of goals from Tyler Andrews and Paul McAvoy, but the Bulldogs would battle back and score four goals in the final frame to take it by a score of 5-2.

There was a scary incident in the second period when forward Donovan Ott slammed head first into the boards while battling for a puck, and remained down on the ice for an extended period of time. Both teams were sent to their dressing rooms as paramedics tended to the injured Ott, delaying the game for over half an hour.

Luckily, Ott gave a thumbs up on his way off the ice and was moving both of his limbs by the time paramedics arrived. He was taken to the nearby hospital for precautionary tests, but was released later that night. While he was well enough to continue with the team for the rest of the road trip, he will remain out of the lineup indefinitely.

The Eagles continued onto Powell River for an afternoon contest against the Kings on Sunday. Jeffrey Stewart scored his seventh goal of the season, and the Eagles held a 1-0 lead after one period. Gage Mackie tallied his sixth goal of the season in the second period, but the Kings would open up the game, scoring five times in the period, eventually winning by a score of 7-2.

Justin Laforest started in goal for the Eagles against Alberni Valley, stopping 38 of 43 shots, and Daniel Davidson was in goal for the game in Powell River, where he stopped 39 of 46 shots.

Their next home game is on Friday night as the Wenatchee Wild come to town, but not before the CJHL Prospects Game takes place on Tuesday the 26th. The Eagles will wrap up the January portion of the schedule with two road games against Chilliwack and Langley.
