Surrey, BC – The Surrey Eagles are proud to congratulate former Eagle Adam Tambellini on being named to the 2022 Canadian Olympic Men’s Hockey Team! Adam is the first former Eagles player to suit up for Team Canada at the Olympics, and is the 2nd player going behind Scott Gomez who played for USA during the 2006 Olympic Games.
Tambellini played 2 seasons in the BCHL split between the Vernon Vipers and the Surrey Eagles, and was a part of the Eagles team which won the Fred Page Cup in 2013. Tambellini was acquired during the 2012-13 season by the Eagles, and scored 14 goals and 26 points in just 16 games with the team before their playoff run. In the playoffs, Adam was just as dominant and scored 10 goals and had 18 points in 17 games helping the Eagles win the Fred Page Cup! Over the course of his BCHL career, Tambellini scored 65 goals and had 121 points in just 107 games split between Vernon and Surrey.
Tambellini then went and played NCAA Division 1 hockey with North Dakota before he jumped to the WHL and continued his junior career with the Calgary Hitmen. After his junior career was over, Tambellini played 4 seasons in the AHL with the Hartford Wolf Pack and the Belleville Senators. Adam then moved to Sweden and played a year with MODO Hockey in the Allsvenskan before signing with Rogle BK in the SHL which is where he currently plays. So far this season with Rogle, Adam has scored 18 goals and has 35 points in 32 SHL games.
For Adam, being named to Team Canada is an incredible accomplishment and a dream come true for the Edmonton, Alberta native. “It was surreal. To get the call to be on the Canadian Olympic team is something you dream of but you don’t believe it’s gonna happen. Special circumstances made that happen and I’m really excited to be a part of that group.”
This isn’t the first time Tambellini has represented Canada at an international tournament, as he was a part of the 2019-20 Spengler Cup team as well. He had 3 assists for Canada in 4 games at that tournament, and he’s excited to be a part of Canadian group at the Olympics. “It’s amazing, and so special with all the Canadian history at the Olympics. It’s amazing, surreal and I’m really excited to be a part of the group and get it all started in China on February 2nd.”
