White Rock Native Ewan Rennie Commits To Surrey For 2022-23

Surrey, B.C. – The Surrey Eagles are proud to announce White Rock native and forward Ewan Rennie (05) has committed to the team for the 2022-23 season. Rennie is the first player committed for next season.

Ewan has had a fantastic start so far this season with the White Rock Whalers in the PIJHL. In just 5 games, Rennie has 5 goals and 10 points and has established himself as a top young player in the Junior B league. Rennie also played in a couple of pre-season games with the Eagles this fall, and has acclimated to the team. Rennie is currently listed at 5’7, weighs 128 pounds and is a left handed shot.

For Ewan, the ability to play at home next season factored into the decision to commit to the Eagles. “I grew up in White Rock so it was nice to be able to play close to home. I grew up watching them, and it’s great to be able to play in front of friends and family.”

In his age 16 season, Rennie stated he’s taking this year with the Whalers to learn how to adapt and play against tougher competition. “I think just playing with older, bigger kids will help me make the transition to the next level which is why I chose to play there this year.”

Finally, Rennie understands he’ll need to improve his physical abilities in order to perform at a high level next season. “I learned I need to get faster and stronger if I want to be an impact player at the BCHL. That’s what I’ll work on in the off-season for next season.”

For Eagles head coach Cam Keith, Rennie is a player he’s very excited about, and could very well see games this season as an affiliate player. “Ewan Rennie is gonna be a player that we build this program around. A number 1 centre who can score goals, distribute the puck, while playing defensive hockey and being a local kid. It’s a slam dunk for us and we’re excited to have him.”

Welcome to the flock Ewan!
