Soaring With Our Sponsors: Hugh & McKinnon Realty

Surrey, BC – While the Surrey Eagles have made massive improvements during the 2019-20 B.C Hockey League season to return to competitiveness, the road hasn’t been easy. However, with a new head coach in Cam Keith, new systems, and 21 new players, this group has turned the team around and are gearing up for a post-season run. What hasn’t changed over the years has been the support of a number of key sponsors who have supported the team through thick and thin. As such, we’re taking a look at a number of businesses and organizations who have taken care of us while we’ve rebuilt our organization. Today, we’re soaring with Hugh & McKinnon Realty.

We got the chance to sit down and speak with Scott Higgins, who works with the business, and has been a supporter of the Eagles for the past 6 years. The South Surrey native played minor hockey with the Semi Minor organization, and has been able to give back to the team he loves. When asked about what sponsoring the team has meant to him, Higgins explained, “It’s awesome, we’re born and raised here, played our minor hockey here, and [I] played some junior. [We] love the sport and we’re entrenched in the community. It’s very important for us to give back to the game that we love, and hopefully inspire other people to do the same to help the kids succeed moving forward.” Asked where Higgins played when he was in junior, his response might surprise some. “I played with the Langley Eagles in 81-82, and then a year in the East Coast League.”

It’s been refreshing for everyone seeing the team succeed, especially for the local businesses supporting the group. When asked about the team this season, Higgins response expressed his joy to see more success with this young team. “Well, you want to see everyone succeed. There’s a big investment from ownership and everyone in the community to support the team and hope they do well. It’s great to see everyone stick with it and help build a winner. It’s been awesome to see them turn things around and see them compete.”

As far as what the business does, Higgins was happy to share. “We’ve been happy to help the team financially, as well as providing support with any activities outside in the community. We love the exposure we get inside the rink, and attending games throughout the season.”

As far as the fans in the community, Hugh and McKinnon have plenty of ways to help with any of their housing needs. “Everyday, we try and provide great service in real estate sales, property management and everything else we do here. We have an honest approach and supportive our cliental who have stuck with us over the past 100 years. We just want to maintain that and help anyone who wants to live in this community with good support.”

Thank you Hugh and McKinnon for your years of support, looking forward to seeing you all around The Nest throughout the remainder of the season and into the playoffs.
