Sacred Heart Commit Jake Bongo Commits To Eagles For 2021-22

Surrey, B.C. – The Surrey Eagles are proud to announce forward Jake Bongo (03) has committed to the team for the 2021-22 season. The Ridgefield, Connecticut native comes to the team already committed to Sacred Heart University.

Last year, Bongo was able to play a full season in the NCDC as a member of the New Jersey Rockets. In 28 games with New Jersey, Bongo scored 10 goals and had 26 points. Bongo added 2 goals and an assist in 4 playoff games. The 18 year old is a right shot forward, and adds more speed and skill to an already explosive Eagles roster.

For Jake, choosing the Surrey Eagles was the best step in his eyes for preparing himself for the NCAA. “I think it’s the best step for my development before college. I spoke to my coaches at Sacred Heart, my agent, and my parents and we all think Surrey is the best spot as far as development goes. The way the league plays fits my style of play so it was a no brainer.”

For Eagles fan who haven’t seen Bongo play, he described himself as a skilled playmaker. “I’m a skilled player. I’m going to produce, score goals, and I’m going to make plays. I’m expecting to bring a 200 foot game as well.”

Finally, when asked about his goal in the BCHL; Jake mentioned improving his strength as a main goal for the year. “I want to get better all around as a player, and I want to focus on getting stronger as a priority. I’ll use all the tools at my disposal when I get out there, and I’m excited to meet the players and see all of the lower mainland for the first time.”

For Eagles Head Coach Cam Keith, he’s excited about adding another strong forward to his group next season. “Jake’s a kid who can step in and produce right away. He was fortunate enough to play in the NCDC last year and play a full schedule. As an 03 he did very well, his team made the national finals with one of the best powerplays in the league. He was the anchor on their powerplay, and brings playmaking and scoring with a heart and soul attitude. He’s a perfect fit already and will help replace some of the scoring we lost from last year.”

Welcome to the flock Jake!
