Michigan Native Primo Self Joins Surrey For 2021-22 Season

Surrey, B.C. – The Surrey Eagles are proud to announce Grand Rapids, Michigan native and centre Primo Self (01) has decided to join the team for the 2021-22 season. Primo Self’s rights were acquired in the blockbuster 3 team trade which also saw the team pick up Jacob Bonkowski.

Primo Self’s last season was spent with the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the USHL after the BCHL was postponed in November of 2020. In 37 games with the Saints, Self scored 8 goals and 4 assists for 12 points. Self played 3 games in the USHL this season with the Youngstown Phantoms, putting up an assist in 3 games.

Self has played in the BCHL already in his junior career. In the 2019-20 season, Self was a leading member of the Cowichan Valley Capitals, where he had 12 goals and 25 assists for 37 points in 51 games as an 18 year old. In the playoffs that year, Self was a point per game player in their 5 game series win over the Powell River Kings before the season was cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

For Eagles Head Coach Cam Keith, this is another highly skilled player and a leader to help this young Eagles team progress through the season who he’s excited about bringing into the fold. “Primo has the ability to generate offense using his speed, hockey sense, and heart. He’s a high character kid that’ll help our younger team adjust to junior hockey.”

Welcome to the flock Primo!
