The Surrey Eagles hockey club is extremely pleased to announce that captain Jeremy Smith has committed to Quinnipiac University, accepting a scholarship for the 2019-20 season. The 20-year-old defenceman finished his junior hockey career with the Eagles this season, and will begin the next chapter with the Hamden, Connecticut-based division I NCAA program.
After being acquired from the Trail Smoke Eaters in mid-November, Smith became an instant fan favourite at South Surrey Arena. His offensive ability and physical play endeared him to the fans and his teammates – eventually leading to being announced as the new captain after the departure of Ty Westgard at the roster deadline.
Smith finished the 2018-19 season with 13 goals in only 48 games, which was good for fourth in the league amongst defencemen and second on the Eagles. He will join former Eagles forward Desi Burgart at Quinnipiac, who began his collegiate career after a stellar 2017-18 season with the club.
Thank you Jeremy for everything that you have done for the organization, and we wish you the best of luck with the Quinnipiac Bobcats next season!
