Jason Chu Scores First BCHL Goal

Nothing was going to spoil this party!

Surrey Eagles defenceman Jason Chu scored the game-tying goal in the second period at Friday night’s season opener against the Coquitlam Express, and celebrated by jumping high off the glass before being mobbed by teammates. Although the Express ultimately won the game by a 4-2 score, it was an exciting moment the young man will never forget.

The 2000-born Chu was also suiting up for the Eagles for the first time. He played one regular season game as an affiliate player last season for the Prince George Spruce Kings, but did not record a point in it. He spent most of last season with the Vancouver NW Giants of the BCMML and only scored four goals in 40 games.

Chu received a pass from teammate Michael McCosh as he pinched in from the right point. After skating in a few strides, he picked a perfect shot off the far post and in – blocker side on Express goaltender Clay Stevenson. It was a brilliant shot which tied the game at that time, and Chu’s celebration certainly reflected the magnitude of the goal.
