Surrey Eagles Hockey School Daily Schedule and Skill Focus:
Monday- Skating – Focus on forward and backward stride, edge control and transition skating. Creating power through dynamic and explosive striding will improve start quickness. Understanding the concept of stride recovery will extend the stride length and make you a more efficient skater.
Tuesday – Puck Handling – Focus on grip and proper hand and stick placement to allow for maximum range of movement when turning pucks to change directions or to make an evasive move when attacking on offence. Attacking moves like toe drags, backhand drags and puck protection will teach players to create more space for themselves.
Wednesday – Shooting – This session will focus on the fundamentals of wrist shots, snap shots and backhands. Within these shot types the concepts of quick release, shooting in stride and changing the angle of your shot will be touched on.
Thursday – Passing – The proper hand position when giving and receiving a pass will be the main focus of this day. Players will work on both sides of their stick taking and giving passes with both their forehard and backhand. Emphasis will be placed of accuracy and power of passes. Game concepts such as give and go plays will teach players to move after making a pass to get open.
Friday – Gameplay Concepts – This ice time will use the skills learned earlier in the week and teach players how the individual skills relate to situations they will see in a game through high tempo interactive flow drills.
Saturday – Competition Day (Small Area Games) – Our final day will be a fun competitive environment where players will be split into teams and battle each other in many unique and innovative half ice and cross ice games.
