Eagles Win 5th Straight Against Powell River

Burnaby, B.C. – The Surrey Eagles (9-2-1) continued their winning ways on Sunday afternoon, scoring 3 more powerplay goals en-route to a 5-2 win over the Powell River Kings (6-6-1). The win is Surrey’s 5th in a row, and 3rd straight game with 3 powerplay goals.

Surrey raced out to a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes of play with a short-handed goal from Buddy Johnson, and a powerplay tally from Holden Katzalay. However, the Eagles slumped through the 2nd period for a 2nd straight game. “Our emotions got the better of us in the second period which lead to a momentum shift…” Noted Eagles head coach Cam Keith. Surrey took 4 penalties, including a Christian Fitzgerald double minor which gave the Kings enough powerplay opportunities to equalize late in the middle frame.

The boys regrouped in the intermission, and scored 3 unanswered goals in the 3rd to take the game home. Fitzgerald had 2 of them, both on the powerplay with an Alec Saretzky snipe sandwiched between. Cam was proud of the way his team responded. “Credit to the guys for calming down and playing through adversity.” Max Prazma made his 2nd straight start, and made 25 saves for the win.

When the dust settled, it was another huge night for Fitzgerald, Katzalay, and Brett Bliss. Holden Katzalay had a goal and two assists, Fitzgerald had 2 goals and an assist, and Bliss had 3 assists. When asked about his offensive leaders, the coach highlighted their work ethic during the extended training camp. “They took advantage of the extended practice season. They all were committed to improving their skill sets which translated to games.” Katzalay finished the game leading the BCHL with 24 points, while Fitzgerald sits tied for 10th with 17. Bliss sits 2nd in defenseman scoring with 12 points on the year.

The Eagles will get right back at it tomorrow night, as they’ll look for their 6th win in a row against the Coquitlam Express. Puck drop is slated for 8:00 pm inside the Scotia Barn, and you can catch all the action on BCHL TV (Powered by HockeyTV) and on mixlr.com/eaglesbchl.
