Eagles’ Survive Late Express Push To Win In OT

Burnaby, B.C. – The Surrey Eagles (4-2-0) looked for their 2nd win in a row on a beautiful Sunday afternoon against the Coquitlam Express (2-1-2). It took more than 60 minutes, and 52 shots but they came away with a 3-2 win in overtime against the Express.

The Eagles scored in the 1st period off a Christian Fitzgerald powerplay tally and held their lead through 40 minutes as they carried the bulk of the play. However, adversity struck in the 3rd period when Ryan Tattle scored a lacrosse style goal to pull the Express even. The Eagles would retake the lead off another powerplay goal, this time from Holden Katzalay, but Coquitlam answered with one of their own to send the game to overtime. It took another couple of shots, but Michael Abgrall scored the overtime winner to give the Eagles their 4th win of the pod season.

Eagles head coach Cam Keith was impressed with how his team handled adversity this afternoon. “Positive experience to face adversity in a tight game where each play is more important.” When asked how his team was able to handle the adversity they faced, he praised the composure of his group. “The guys were positive with each other through the lows which helped us sustain our energy.”

Despite the great game from Express starter Dylan Kruss, who stopped 49 of 52 shots, the Eagles found a way to win. When asked if his team has reached their peak, Cam admitted he thinks the Eagles are still finding their game. “I think the process of us reaching our full potential is still ongoing. Everyone is still adjusting to different game situations as we saw today in overtime.”

The Eagles will look to continue their winning streak on Wednesday evening, with a rematch against the Express set for 8:00 pm inside the Scotia Barn. You can watch that game live on BCHL TV (Powered by HockeyTV), and on Mixlr.com/eaglesbchl.
