Eagles Exact Revenge On Smoke Eaters

The Eagles rebounded in a big way on Thursday night, defeating the Smoke Eaters by a score of 7-3. They were propelled by a Desi Burgart hat trick – with goals also coming from Paul McAvoy, Ashton Calder, Dario Piva, and Jordan Robert.

The first period was highlighted by a pair of goals from Burgart, but the Smoke Eaters were able to keep the game tied 2-2 with goals of their own from Josh Laframboise and Troy Ring.

Burgart would complete the hat-trick early in the second period, with Cory Babichuk and Nick Fea drawing assists. The second would end up being a three-goal period for the Eagles, as they expanded their lead with goals from McAvoy and Piva. Piva’s goal was only his third of the season, and was assisted by Jesse Nelson – who recorded his third point of the season.

Luke Santerno scored early in the third period on the powerplay to pull the Smoke Eaters within two goals, but that was as close as they would get. Ashton Calder scored only 28 seconds later to expand the Eagles lead, and newly-minted captain Jordan Robert would score into the empty net to give the Eagles a 7-3 lead. That’s how it would end.

Daniel Davidson started in goal and made 33 saves on 36 shots for the victory. Zach Dyment took the loss for Trail, stopping only 26 shots out of 32. Jeff Stewart was named the FortisBC Energy Player of the Game for his defensive effort in the game. Daniel Davidson was named the third star, McAvoy received the second star, and Burgart received first star honours.
