Eagles Captain Kieran O’Hearn Commits To Yale University

Surrey, B.C. – The Surrey Eagles are proud to congratulate captain and defenseman Kieran O’Hearn on his commitment to Yale University! Kieran is now the 3rd player this season to commit to a NCAA Division 1 program, following Christian Fitzgerald (Minnesota State University) and Tait Ross (Dartmouth College).

Kieran was acquired by the Eagles in October of 2019 in a trade which saw the Eagles send their then captain Cody Schiavon to the Trail Smoke Eaters. O’Hearn quickly developed into the Eagles best defenseman, scoring 3 goals and 15 assists for 18 points in his 39 games with the team, which was more than double his career BCHL totals! O’Hearn also played in 4 games during the playoffs last year.

Over the course of his 2+ years in the BCHL split between the Smoke Eaters and the Eagles, O’Hearn has played in 100 BCHL games, scoring 4 goals, 21 assists, and accumulating 85 penalty minutes. O’Hearn was named captain of the Eagles in November of this year.

For Kieran, “it’s a dream come true [to continue my hockey career]. I’d love to play hockey as long as possible.” When asked why he chose to go to Yale University over other division 1 schools, Kieran replied, “I chose Yale to receive a world class education while also playing for one of the most historic hockey programs in college hockey.”

Congratulations Kieran!
