Surrey, B.C. – The Surrey Eagles are proud to announce their leadership team for the 2021-22 BCHL season. Jimmy Darby will be this year’s Eagles captain, with Jacob Slipec, Buddy Johnson, and Cole Galata rounding out the leadership team for a young Eagles team looking too soar to new heights.
Darby is the team’s longest tenured defenseman, and was acquired in a trade during the 2019 off-season. Darby is getting set to finish up his junior career this season. Going into his 3rd year with the team Darby has played in 65 games, and has scored 3 goals, and 17 assists for 20 points.
White Rock native Buddy Johnson is the team’s longest tenured forward, and will be playing in his final season in junior hockey as well. Buddy started his BCHL career in the 2019-20 season with the Eagles. Johnson has played in 68 games and has scored 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points. He’ll be looking to finish the season strong before graduating the program.
One of the newer White Rock natives on this Eagles team, Jacob Slipec will be playing his final season in junior hockey alongside his younger brother Grayden. Jacob Slipec was acquired at the trade deadline in 2020, and has only played in the pod-season with Surrey. In 17 games, he scored 11 goals and had 3 assists for 14 points. Slipec just announced his commitment to the University of Nebraska-Omaha in the NCAA.
The final assistant captain on this Eagles team is Barrie, Ontario native Cole Galata. The only 19 year old assistant on the team, Galata was slated to play his first season with Surrey last season before the league was temporarily shut down. Galata then played a year with the Summerside Western Capitals in the MJAHL, and scored 1 goal with 16 assists in 17 games. Galata was reacquired this summer, and his former relationship with many current Eagles players factored in the decision. Galata has a commitment to Bentley University in the NCAA.
Congratulations to the Surrey Eagles new leadership team for the 2021-22 season!
