Defender Hayden Tuba Commits To Team For Next Season

Surrey, B.C. – The Surrey Eagles are proud to announce the commitment of defenseman Hayden Tuba (02) to the team for the 2020-21 B.C. Hockey League season. The young defenseman comes from the Greater Vancouver Canadians in the B.C. U18 AAA league.

For Tuba, it’ll be his first full season in the BCHL after playing 5 games over the last 2 seasons with the Coquitlam Express. Over the course of last season, Tuba played in 27 games with the G.V. Canadians, scoring 2 goals and totalling 8 points for the year. In his 3 BCHL games last season with the Express, Tuba didn’t register a point. Tuba also played a few games with the Richmond Sockeyes in the PIJHL as well. Hayden is a bigger defenseman who stands 6’2, weighs 185 pounds, and is a right handed shot.

Hayden had to win his spot out of training camp and admitted, “It’s been a great experience so far and I’m looking forward to the season. The coaching staff is great, the players have been welcoming and it’s been a good camp so far.” Hayden knows he’ll have to improve his aspects of his game after cracking an active BCHL roster. “I’d like to improve my skating, my stick handling, my transitioning from backwards to forwards and defending on the rush.”

Finally, Hayden gave his scouting report on himself for Eagles fans who haven’t seen him play. “I’m a defensive defenseman who likes to defend against the rush. I’ll protect pucks in the d-zone, while also making the occasional play in the offensive zone.”

Hayden was a great sight for Eagles Head Coach Cam Keith, who has been thoroughly impressed with the defender so far. “Hayden Tuba is a kid who came in and earned [a spot] out of camp. He does everything; he’s big, physical, has a good mind. We also think he has an offensive side he hasn’t quite found, but we believe he’ll find it as he integrates into our system and becomes more comfortable.”

Welcome to the flock Hayden!
