Owen Norton Commits To Mercyhurst University

The Surrey Eagles Hockey Club is extremely proud to announce that defenceman Owen Norton has committed to Mercyhurst University. He will join them for the upcoming 2018-19 season.

Norton is coming off an exceptional first BCHL season in which he led all Eagles defencemen in scoring with 4 goals and 27 assists. He followed that up with 8 assists in 13 playoff games. The Ancaster, Ontario native will turn 20 years old this June.

“This is an exciting opportunity for Owen,” Eagles head coach Brandon West said about the news. “We are very happy for him and his family. Owen developed his game throughout the season and was a huge impact down the stretch and into playoffs. We wish him and Mercyhurst nothing but the best.”

He becomes the seventh current Eagles player to earn a division I NCAA scholarship, after fellow defenceman Jackson Ross announced his commitment to Colorado College last month. Other teammates with a scholarship include Jordan Robert (Clarkson), Desi Burgart (Quinnipiac), Jeff Stewart (Colgate), Chase Danol (Bowling Green), and Cory Babichuk (RPI).

The Mercyhurst Lakers men’s ice hockey team plays in the Atlantic Hockey Association conference of the NCAA divison I program. They play against teams like Canisius College, Niagara University, Robert Morris University, American International College (who have former Eagle Darius Davidson on their roster), and the Rochester Institute of Technology (who have former Eagle Christian Short on their roster).

Congratulations and good luck next season, Owen!
