New program rewards children who excel in academics, community service, and athletics

The Surrey Eagles Hockey Club and the City of Surrey

along with co-sponsors The Peace Arch News and Surrey Leader newspapers are pleased to announce Mayor Dianne Watts’ Score for Surrey Schools program.

The goal of the program is to encourage children to excel at their school through strong academics, supportive behaviour, and athletic achievement. In return, the incentive would be tickets to view a Surrey Eagles home game at South Surrey Arena.

“I was sold immediately on the value of this program,” said Mayor Watts. “It’s an exciting and innovative way to encourage excellence in our schools and a great way to bring the business community on board.”

“This new program is a great example of how the community can work together to benefit elementary students throughout the city,” said Ronnie Paterson of the Surrey Eagles. “We are really eager to attract the support of Surrey’s businesses so that as many elementary schools as possible can participate in the program.”

All elementary schools in Surrey School District No.36 are eligible to be sponsored. Once sponsored, the school will receive eight season tickets to be distributed and will also receive one 50 person game night for the sponsored school in the Mayor’s section of the arena. All businesses that participate in the program will receive a certificate of appreciation, recognition in local newspapers, and 20 complimentary tickets to an Eagles home game.
