Eagles Shut Out Express 4-0

Daniel Davidson recorded his first career BCHL shutout, and Nick Fea potted two goals as the Surrey Eagles defeated the Coquitlam Express 4-0 for their third win of the season.

Davidson stopped all 22 shots he faced in the win, while Coquitlam’s Reid Cooper halted 33 of 37 attempts.

“Our guys did a good job blocking shots, so I didn’t have too much to deal with,” said Davidson crediting his teammates for helping keep the visiting team scoreless.

The Eagles had 15 total shots for the first frame, but could not find an opening past Cooper; the Express were held to just six shots on goal. Rookie Ashton Calder had the biggest opportunity on the partial breakaway, beating out three Express-men, but once again, could not get the puck past the swift glove of the Coquitlam netminder.

Nick Fea decided to add another goal to his BCHL career, and it came 61 seconds into the second period with helpers from Desi Burgart and Logan Mostat. After a goal was disallowed by the officials with five minutes left, the same scoring squad wanted to make up for the loss, scoring in dramatic fashion. Fea netted his second of the night, his third of the season, thanks to a centering pass from Burgart who took an earlier pass from Mostat.

“We just move the puck really nice and just have a lot of speed on that line, which tends to back defenders off and we use our speed to our advantage,” said Fea on his line-mate’s chemistry.

The triple-threat each had two points after two periods of play; home team had 2-0 lead going into the final 20 minutes.

Surrey created more offensive opportunities in the final frame and their perseverance paid off. Surrey native Jeffrey Stewart made a move on the Express D-men on a one-man on three breakway; he would put the puck through Cooper’s five-hole for a three-goal lead. Andrew Kemp would follow-up late in the period with his fourth of the season and the fourth goal of the game for the Eagles; giving the home team a four-goal cushion and the shutout for Davidson.

Surrey’s record improves 3-7-1-0, while Coquitlam falls to 4-7-0-1.

The Eagles swept the Three Star honours; Nick Fea, Daniel Davidson, and Logan Mostat got first, second, and third respectively.

Desi Burgart’s two helps on the first two goals were enough to be awarded the Fortis BC Energy Player of the Game.
