Eagles Add Babichuk, Campese To Active Roster

The Surrey Eagles are injecting two new players into their lineup – one familiar face, and one new.

Defenceman Cory Babichuk has been added to the Eagles active roster, and is set to make his season debut Friday night at South Surrey Arena against the Coquitlam Express. Babichuk, a native of Edmonton, posted 31 points in 47 games for the Eagles last season. He was also named to Team West at the 2016 CJHL Prospects Game.

“We are excited to add Cory back to our group,” Eagles GM Blaine Neufeld told SurreyEagles.ca. “He’s proven to be an elite defensemen in the BCHL and will surely add to both ends of the ice.”

Forward Matthew Campese has been acquired from the West Kelowna Warriors and will be making his Eagles debut Friday night. The 19-year-old Campese has 22 points in 28 career BCHL games with the Warriors spread over the last two seasons. He was acquired from the Warriors in exchange for future considerations.

“Matthew is recognized around our league as an all-around player that brings an element that is exactly what we need,” Neufeld continued. “Adding his experience and high level of play will certainly compliment our group.”

“We are very lucky to add two players at this point in the season. We expect to win every night with this roster.”

Eagles Head Coach Brandon West is also very excited about the additions:

“Matthew and Cory will make an immediate impact on our roster. Both men have great qualities about them and will make a difference on and off the ice for us. They are veteran players who know what it takes on a daily basis to be successful and we are fortunate to have them on our team.”

Defeceman Derrick Johnson has been released from the team as a result of these transactions. The Eagles thank Derrick for his time with the organization and wish him all the best in the future.

As mentioned above, both players will be dressed and IN the lineup for Friday night’s game at South Surrey Arena vs the Coquitlam Express. Tickets are available now!
