Babichuk, Burgart Named To CJHL Prospects Game Roster

The rosters for the 2017 CJHL Prospects Game were announced earlier today, and two Surrey Eagles players will be taking part. Defenceman Cory Babichuk and forward Desi Burgart will be suiting up for Team West in the annual event, which will take place on January 25th in Cornwall, Ontario. Both players were also invited to Team Canada West tryouts for the World Junior ‘A’ Challenge in December.

The 2016 CJHL Prospects Game was hosted at South Surrey Arena, where the Eagles own Jeffrey Stewart picked up an assist in a 3-1 loss to Team East. Team East goaltenders Colton Point and (current Eagle) Michael Botiz took home MVP honours for the game. This year’s game will be the 12th in CJHL history.

CJHL President Brent Ladds offered some high praise for the players that were selected for the game in a press release:

“We congratulate each of the players on their selection to compete in the 2017 CJHL Prospects Game in Cornwall and commend NHL Central Scouting for their contributions in helping formalize the Team East and Team West rosters. We are confident this group of young men will provide all those in attendance, including the multitude of scouts and Junior A hockey fans alike, a tremendous showcase of CJHL talent from right across the country.”

The game is attended by a large number of scouts, which is crucial for Babichuk and Burgart, who are both entering their first year of NHL draft eligibility.
